PerfectLaw® Software announces the release of PerfectLaw® PLMobile™/Docs

Miami, October, 2008 – PerfectLaw® Software, developed by Executive Data Systems, Inc., releases PerfectLaw® PLMobile™/Docs, a browser-based ActiveX application providing users with the ability to work online and offline with the PerfectLaw® Document Management System (DMS).

PerfectLaw® PLMobile™/Docs allows firms to share documents easily. Documents can not only be shared among employees but third party companies/individuals with specific remote access rights as well. Rights are assigned according to each firm’s criteria for security of matters and documents. PerfectLaw® PLMobile™/Docs offers the same matter and document security model as that offered by PerfectLaw® DMS but with advanced functions and distributed security to allow collaboration with third parties. The PerfectLaw® PLMobile™/Docs client also works with the PerfectLaw® Data Browser advanced search engine. This provides users with a familiar interface and an extremely powerful tool for searching and retrieving documents based on any search criteria.

The PLMobile™ Server runs on Windows Server addressing each client request sent by the browser-based PLMobile™ Client application. The PLMobile™ Client runs in three different modes: (1) online in a remotely connected computer, (2) online in a computer on a local area network or (3) offline as an independent non-connected workstation.

Users can browse documents online and retrieve them using the export or check-out features. When documents are exported or checked-out, a local copy is created and the offline document table is populated with the proper profile information. At this point, users can work offline or stay connected to the central database and work online.

When exporting, a new version of an existing document is created. When checking out, however, a lock is applied to the existing document and a copy is sent to the PLMobile™ Client. The original document is write-protected from change by others until it is released or checked back in by the user. While working offline, documents created locally can be profiled into the offline documents table. When the user is back online, all offline documents can be synchronized with the central database with a simple click of a button.

Bi-directional synchronization lets the users update their local database with the PerfectLaw® central database and document repository simultaneously. This means that documents are sent back and forth via the web so that both the local and central databases have the latest data and documents. Synchronizing actions for new document, new version, check-in etc. are defined automatically by the PLMobile™ Client but the user can change how synchronization works according to specific needs.
